Kindle Unlimited Bookshelf
I was inspired by a friend to share my Kindle Unlimited bookshelf. Like an idiot, I have been paying for KU for some time now and haven’t gotten around to using it. I keep forgetting it’s there. Last night I downloaded 20 books (the limit). The books are now in my Kindle library so they will start me in the face every time I open the app. Hey, I’m paying for stuff, I should use it.
I came across Chemical Gardens when I was looking for books popular amongst the punk rockers. I was thinking about why I read Valley of the Dolls as a teenager. Billy Idol’s early band, Generation X, had a song inspired by the book called Valley of the Dolls. So I read it because I thought it would help me understand the song better. Did it? Yes. A Google search of “punk rock books” returned Chemical Gardens.
This is billed as a gothic fairy tale. I’m sold. I have always loved anything gothic. I was a weird child who grew up watching things like Dark Shadows and Bela Lugosi movies. I was probably 6 or 7 and demanded to go to a haunted house one year, so my parents took me. I was more freaked out by the people who were freaked out than I was by the haunted house goings on. I was quite excited to see a vampire and made some comment about him being Barnabas Collins. The vampire was horrified and quit on the spot because he couldn’t scare a little kid.
This one I have been seeing promoted all over Instagram by the author. End of the world dystopia fiction. Yes please. I love this kind of stuff and this is a newish idea in the world of dystopia fiction. I have looked everywhere trying to find a physical copy of this. I live in this fantasy world where bookstores carry everything. I really resent ordering books. Found it on KU, downloaded it. If I like it as much as I think I will, I am going to end up ordering a copy.
Another book found during that “punk rock books” Google search. This one is a graphic novel, even though I am not sure how I feel about reading graphic novels digitally. From the synopsis

In short, Jesus has been cloned and is part of a reality TV show. When his mother is cut from the show he decides to rebel and start a punk band. It could happen.
Another contemporary Peter Pan story. This one focusing on Captain Hook and how he became the bad guy. I am curious why Peter Pan seems to be the story most often co-opted for these kinds of stories. Are there more Peter Pan fans out there than I think there are?
A young man with terminal cancer and his best friend answer a text on a whim. The result is they end up buying a spaceship that was made from a robotic head.
Sounds interesting. Could be fun. Don’t judge my reading choices and I won’t judge yours 😉
This one is a memoir. I had a hard time choosing between this one and Darling Girl for my last Book of the Month box.
The typical ‘fake dating’ troupe. It is always nice to have some light quick reading in the TBR pile after reading something heavy and complex. #GuiltyPleasure
Dungeon Crawler Carl. This has been on my TBR for a while because of the absurdity. It’s what is called a Lit RPG, or literary role playing game. Think of it this way, someone took a Dungeons and Dragons game they played and turned it into a novel. It’s that kind of idea, only this isn’t D&D. Well, it could be depending on the dungeon master. Yes, I’m showing my nerd card here. Anyway, I really want to know how Carl makes it through this world in his underwear.
