Curses! A F’d up Fairy Tale
J.A. Kazimer should get more credit than she does. I really have no idea why she isn’t a better known author. She has a weird sense of humor and is talented.
Curses! is actually the first book in the F’d Up Fairy Tale duology. The other being Froggy Style. I read these books out of order unknowingly, and they both made perfect sense. They are very much stand alone from each other.
Curses! follows Rumpelstiltskin, who goes by RJ, as he investigates the death of Cinderella. One of her evil step-sisters arrived at his house thinking he was Sherlock Holmes, and asked him to help find Cinderella’s killer. RJ has to help her because the villain union has suspended him, told him to take mental health leave, after a near breakdown caused by his ex-wife running off with the Frog Prince. Yes, the Frog Prince from Froggy Style. As part of his suspension he has to do everything asked of him, if he is asked nicely.
Through the course of the book he helps find Cinderella’s killer, helps break the curse of the evil step-sister who asked for help, falls in love and marries the same evil step-sister, nearly gets himself and Prince Charming blown up, and just finds himself in all kind of bad and hysterical situations without his villain powers.
Kazimer’s Fairy Tale Land is a really screwed up place. Little Miss Muffet isn’t as innocent as the nursery rhyme would have you believe. Prince Charming has so many problems he would need an army of therapists and I won’t get into Missy, the witch from Hansel and Gretel. You are just going to have to take my word for it and read the book.
